On our first day of our Middle Sister climb, we begin our approach beginning at Pole Creek Trailhead will take us beneath the massive east face of North Sister. We’ll eventually make it to our camp on the toe of the Hayden Glacier. Once at camp we will cover some basic climbing techniques that we will use on our summit attempt on day two.
Our second day will begin with an alpine start, we’ll climb the Hayden Glacier that pours down from the col between Middle and North Sister. After a few sections of steep snow on the North Ridge, we will stand on the summit of Middle Sister. After incredible views of South and North Sister, and surrounding volcanic landscape, we will descend back to our tents. We’ll break camp and begin our afternoon hike out to the trail head.
This is an excellent introduction to mountaineering, and a perfect climb for those who have no previous mountaineering experience.
This climb can be done in a single day for extremely fit climbers that have had previous mountaineering instruction and climbs.
We are able to schedule this climb on Monday through Thursday only, because of limitations on all commercial permits in the Deschutes-Willamette National Forest.
