Cliff began winter backpacking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire when he was 11 years old. These annual experiences laid the foundation of every mountain adventure he’s had since. His education in technical climbing began eleven years later in California, where he became a student of Yosemite. In 2009 he moved to the Pacific Northwest to begin his Alpine guiding career. He has since worked throughout the world: the American West, Europe, South America and Asia. His personal climbing and skiing pursuits have taken him to the Alps, Patagonia, the Mediterranean, the Andes, the Himalaya, Japan, East Africa, and across the United States. He has been guiding Mount Hood since 2010, and has owned and operated Timberline Mountain Guides since 2015. On his days off he enjoys gardening, playing poker, dining out, dark humor, trad and sport climbing, skiing and touring.
