Climbing Reid Headwall Mt. Hood

Reid Headwall

Reid Headwall on Mount Hood is steep and sustained and a great advanced early season climb on the west side of Mount Hood.   Our climb will begin at the Timberline Lodge (inquire about snowcat transportation). After ascending to the top of the Palmer chairlift, our climb will find us traversing west under headlamp as we head towards Illumination Rock. From there our climbing team will drop down onto the Reid Glacier.  Crossing the glacier we’ll reach the head of the Reid Glacier and begin to climb the steep headwall through snow ribs and rime ice towers before popping out on the summit ridge.  Our descent will take us down one of the routes on the south side and back to Timberline Lodge.
