Steep Snow Climbing

This is the perfect introduction course for those wanting to learn proper techniques for climbing steep snow in the mountains.  We will spend the day learning about and practicing different footwork suitable for the terrain, climbing in balance and proper use of ice axe and crampons for ascending and descending steep snow.  The course will also cover different roped climbing scenarios, how to ascend and descend as a member of a rope team and self arrest.  This course is a prerequisite for a summit climb of Mt. Hood via the South Side Route.
