Climbing Reid Headwall Mt. Hood

Reid Headwall

Reid Headwall on Mount Hood is steep and sustained and a great advanced early season climb on the west side of Mount Hood.   We will begin our climb with a cat ride up to the top of the Palmer chairlift and the Palmer Glacier.  Our climb will find us traversing west under headlamp as we head towards Illumination Rock.  Once reaching Illumination Rock our climbing team will drop down onto the Reid Glacier.  Crossing the glacier we’ll reach the head of the Reid Glacier and begin to climb the steep headwall through snow ribs and rime ice towers before popping out on the summit ridge.  Our descent will take us down one of the routes on the south side and back to Timberline Lodge.
