Nine O’Clock Couloir on Broken Top is a relatively unknown, but classic Oregon Cascade route, which is best done as a winter or spring climb. We’ll meet early in the morning and climb the steep and narrow Nine O’Clock Couloir to gain the Northwest slopes of the mountain. We will traverse the steep northwest slopes of Broken Top winding our way to the Northeast side of the peak, climbing yet another steep gully which leads directly to an exposed move to the summit. Views from the summit of Broken Top are spectacular. Broken Top has the best winter access of any of the peaks in the Central Oregon Cascades.
