Centarl Oregon Powder Skiing

Instructional Ski Programs

First Tracks!
(1 Day)

Haven't ventured into the backcountry to ski yet?! Join us for this one-day introductory program for skiers. We will begin with the basics; intro to equipment, skinning techniques, where to look for good powder in the area, etc. This program is ideal for folks who have never skied outside of the resorts before.

Offered: This program can be scheduled at any time during the viable ski season in the Bend or Mt. Hood area.
Cost: $250 for one skier, $125 each for two skiers, $100 each for three skiers, $85 each for four skiers, $75 each for five or more skiers.
Ratio: 5:1

Intro To Backcountry Skiing
(2 Days)

Are you ready to go beyond the lifts and resorts? This two day course will get you started learning the techniques of backcountry ski touring. You'll learn how the gear works and how to use it effectively. We'll strive for saving energy on the uphill and having fun on the downhill while always focusing on sound decision making. Suitable for intermediate to advanced in-bounds skiers comfortable in changing snow conditions.

Offered: Jan. 10-11, Feb. 13-14 (Bend area). This program can also be scheduled at any time during the viable ski season in the Bend or Mt. Hood area.
Cost: $250 per skier for groups of two or more.
Ratio: 4:1

Advanced Backcountry Skiing
(3 Days)

Designed for skiers with prior experience in the backcountry, this course will build and refine your skills letting you explore new terrain. Local day trips give us plenty of time for touring and instruction as we go in-depth on tour planning, navigation, and route finding. We will get field time practicing avalanche skills including snowpack analysis, terrain choices and beacon searching. This course is suitable for backcountry skiers with prior avalanche education.

Offered: Feb. 19-21 (Bend area). This program can also be scheduled at any time during the viable ski season in the Bend or Mt. Hood area.
Cost: $375 per skier for groups of two or more.Cascade Mountains Alpine Touring

Ski Mountaineering Seminar
(3 Days)

Going even higher! Moving through alpine terrain on skis is one of the greatest mountain experiences. We will spend two nights in the field while learning skills to enjoy skiing big mountains. This course focuses on adding snow climbing, rope use, and glacier skiing to your mountain 'bag of tricks'. A highlight will be an attempt to summit and ski one of Oregon's big peaks. This seminar is suitable for experienced backcountry skiers with prior avalanche education and overnight backcountry experience.

Offered: May 14-16 (Bend area). This seminar can also be scheduled at any time during the viable ski season in the Bend or Mt. Hood area.
Cost: $720 per skier for groups of two or more.
Ratio: 3:1
