Pete Keane

Pete is co-director of Timberline Mountain Guides, Inc. He has been climbing since 1982 and guiding since 1989. Pete has made 5 expeditions to Alaska, including a successful ascent of the Cassin Ridge on Denali (6194 meters), Ham and Eggs on the Moose's Tooth and the Southwest Ridge of Peak 11,300. He also attempted the Bonnington Route on the South Face of Annapurna I (8091 meters), and has climbed Khan Tengri (6995 meters) and attempted Pik Pobeda (7439 meters), both in Kyrgyzstan. Pete also enjoys rock climbing in the desert and backcountry skiing. In the off season Pete tries to spend as much time as possible with his sons, Finn and Calvin. Pete is an American Mountain Guides Association Certified Rock Guide, has completed the Advanced Alpine Guides Course as well as his Level III Avalanche Course, has served on the AMGA board of directors, and has recently completed an AMGA Ski Guides course. Pete currently guides rock climbing and mountaineering.

 Steve Baldwin

Steve is co-director of Timberline Mountain guides, Inc. He has been guiding since 1995 and climbing since 1985. He is our Mexico trip coordinator. Steve has climbed extensively in the western US doing alpine snow and ice, big walls and long alpine rock routes. In the off season, Steve enjoys skiing powder, desert rock climbing and is an avid photographer, www.scbphotos.com. Steve guides mountaineering, rock climbing and in Mexico. Steve has completed his Level I Avalanche Course, the AMGA Advanced Rock Guides Course and is an American Mountain Guides Association Certified Rock Instructor.

Nick Pope

Nick began climbing in 1986 and started guiding in 2003. Enjoying a wide spectrum of climbing and skiing, his travels have taken him from skiing in Switzerland to the bigwalls of Yosemite, from Canadian Rockies ice to Sierra Nevada alpine snow and rock, as well as many places in between. Now living in Portland, Oregon, Nick likes to climb and ski the mountains of Oregon. Washington and Canada. He is an active volunteer with Portland Mountain Rescue and is a Wilderness First Responder. Nick is an American Mountain Guides Association Certified Rock Guide, Certified Alpine Guide and has completed his Ski Guides Course as well as his Level III Avalanche Course. He is currently working towards full AMGA/IFMGA certification.

Joe Owens

Joe has been climbing since 1991 and guiding and instructing since 1993. He has climbed all over the Northwest with multiple ascents of Mt. Rainier, Forbidden Peak, and Liberty Bell. Joe has also climbed in Alaska, the Sierra, Canadian Rockies, Ecuador and the infamous Ben Nevis in Scotland. Originally from Ireland, Joe came to the US for the free form lifestyle and climbing opportunities. He is an active volunteer for Portland Mountain Rescue. In the off season, Joe continues to climb and travel around the world. He has completed the American Mountain Guides Association Rock Instructor Course, Alpine Guides Course and the Advanced Alpine Guides Course and has Level III avalanche training. Joe currently guides rock climbing, mountaineering and winter programs.

 

Ben Randall

Ben has climbed extensively across the North American continent. From the steep walls of Eldorado Canyon to the big walls of El Portrero Chico in Mexico . Mountain ascents include a one day winter ascent of Kieners on Longs Peak , to multiple accents of Mt. Rainier , to hiking Mt. Kilimanjaro . Ben has completed the AMGA Rock Instructor Course and Alpine Guides Course, and is working towards full uiagm/ifmga certification. Ben has also completed a level 1 avalanche course. In the off season Ben enjoys backcountry skiing and climbing in the Colorado Rockies as well as desert cragging in Utah . Ben has been guiding for TMG since the spring of 2005 and guides both rock and alpine climbing.

Phil Bowker

Phil was born in Belfast, N.Ireland and started his climbing career on the gritstone crags of the Peak District when he moved to Sheffield, England in 1988. Phil then moved to Chamonix, France where he lived for many years making the Alps his ‘back door’ playground. He has also traveled to Pakistan making the first ascent of Khoz Sar (6100 meters) and Western China to attempt Kuksulak (7500 meters). Other climbing destinations include Australia, Mexico, Thailand and South America. Phil came to America in 2002 to climb in Yosemite and began working for Timberline Mountain Guides in 2006. He is an American Mountain Guides Association Top Rope Site Manager and has completed his Rock Instructor Course and Alpine Guides Course as well as his Level II Avalanche Course. During the winter Phil works as a Professional Ski Patroller on Mt. Bachelor and holds an EMT-B certification. Check out some pictures on Phils website www.verticaldream.com

Matt Cline

Matt has been climbing since 1998 and leading outdoor trips since 1997. He has climbed all over North America from the Harding icefield in Alaska to the desert climate of Joshua Tree, CA. Matt worked as a lead mountain instructor for Outward Bound in Alaska, the North Cascades, California and the Central Cascades of Oregon. He has completed is Level II Avalanche Course as well as the AMGA Alpine Guides Course, has his EMT certification and is a member of Portland Mountain Rescue. In the winter months Matt is a ski patroller at Timberline Ski Area on Mt. Hood where he was the 2005 "Patroller of the Year".

 

Geoff Lodge

A native of Oregon, Geoff has been climbing since 1997 and guiding since 2005. Geoff has successfully climbed peaks in the North Cascades of Washington, and has summitted all the peaks in Oregon multiple times by multiple routes. He has also climbed in the Sierra of California and the Tetons of Wyoming. Notably, Geoff has successfully climbed both Mt. Rainier via Liberty Ridge and Mt. Shasta via Casaval ridge in a total of four days, both separated by five-hundred miles and two state lines! When not guiding, Geoff enjoys back country skiing and snowboarding, climbing with his wife and dog Kaya, and is a volunteer staff member of the Iceaxemen, a high school program that educates students in climbing and backcountry skills and trips. Geoff has completed the American Mountain Guides Association Rock Instructor Course, has his avalanche level 1 certificate, and is a Wilderness First Responder. Geoff guides both rock climbing and mountaineering.

 

Ian Boyer

Ian has been climbing since 1993 and guiding since 1998. His career has taken him around the world including 10 expeditions to Ecuador and Peru, 2 major trips to Asia, and climbing extensively throughout the lower 48. In 2002 he and one other partner made an alpine style attempt on the South Ridge, of Pumo Ri (7165meters), Nepal, stopping just 250ft short of the summit. Other highlights include ascents of Ranrapalca’s North Face (6162m) and the Original Route V 5.11 on La Esphinge (5300m) in Peru, a 6-day ascent of the Shield and 12-hour ascent of the West Face, both on El Capitan in Yosemite, and numerous hard mixed first ascents in the Adirondacks of New York. He lives with his wife, in Portland and spends some of his free time skiing (or in Ian’s case, tumbling downhill with skis attached!). Ian has completed the American Mountain Guides Association Advanced Rock Guides Course, is a Wilderness First Responder and has completed his Level I Avalanche Course.

 

Jon Bates

Jon started climbing with scrambling up his backyard peaks of Glacier National Park in his home state of Montana. He started climbing seriously in 1999 on the ice of the Canadian and Montanan Rockies. Jon has been guiding for TMG since 2006. He has climbed in Montana, Canada, all of the major Oregon Cascade peaks, the North Cascades of Washington including Mt. Rainier and Mt. Stuart, and the desert crags of Utah to the towering walls of Yosemite. He has completed the AMGA Rock Instructor Course, he has his Avalanche I certification and his Wilderness First Responder certification. He plans to further his AMGA training and certifications. Jon guides both rock and alpine climbing. In his spare time he enjoys fly fishing and spending time with his girlfriend and two dogs Kona and Trango.

 

Chris Wright

Chris was born in Cambridge, England, but grew up skiing and playing in the Pocono Mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania. He learned to climb on the famed cliffs of New York's Shawangunks as well as numerous lesser-known local crags, boulders and ice-falls throughout the Northeast. Chris' pursuits of rock, ice and alpine climbing have taken him from ice in the Northeast and throughout the West to rock and alpine in New Zealand, Australia, Spain, Morocco, Thailand and Canada. Since moving to Oregon, Chris has also made ascents of many western peaks from Washington's North Cascades to Wyoming's Wind River Range, and Yosemite's El Capitan and Half Dome to Oregon's own Cascade volcanoes. Chris has completed the American Mountain Guides Association Rock Instructor Course, is a Wilderness First Responder, has had avalanche training with the National Outdoor Leadership School, and has taken an Avalanche Level I course.

David Saiget

David has been climbing since 1974 and guiding since 1979. He has climbed and traveled all over the world with many trips to Southeast Asia. He has a working knowledge of Nepali and Thai languages. Some highlights of David's career include getting to 7900 meters on Cho Oyu (8201 meters) and having to rescue a teammate that was stricken with cerebral edema and an epic 63 day expedition to Alaska where the team skied in to Denali (6194 meters) from Talkeetna and successfully climbed to the summit. David has also climbed the elusive North Face of Mt. Robson in the Canadian Rockies and El Capitan in Yosemite . When not guiding,  David works as a fisheries biologist for the US Forest Service. In addition, David is also the father of two boys, Matthew and Jonathan, who are regularly hauled-out on their own ‘epic’ mountain trips with their father. David guides mountaineering, rock climbing and is our Nepal programs coordinator.

Bob Lehman

Bob learned to climb in 1990 from owner Pete Keane and has been guiding since 1999. Bob has climbed all of Oregon 's major peaks, most of them by multiple routes and many of them in winter. He has climbed extensively in the Northwest, with ascents of Liberty Crack on Liberty Bell, the North Ridge of Mt. Stuart, the Torment/Forbidden Traverse, the West Arete of Eldorado Peak and multiple routes on Rainier and Shasta. Bob has made four attempts on Denali (via 3 different routes) finally reaching the 6194 meter summit in 2001, on the Muldrow Glacier Traverse. Bob is our Alaska program coordinator and one of our winter program guides. Bob currently guides mountaineering, ice climbing, rock climbing, our El Pico de Orizaba trips and our trip to the Ruth Gorge in Alaska . Bob has avalanche level II training and has completed the American Mountain Guides Association Alpine Guides Course, Advanced Alpine Guides Course and is working towards his AMGA certification.

Jeremy Ellison

Jeremy has climbed since 1996 and guided since 2000. Jeremy has made many ascents in Oregon , Washington . He has also rock climbed in Thailand , climbed Therma Glacier on Mt. Aspiring in New Zealand , and Mera Peak (6476 meters) in Nepal . He is an Expert downhill and cross country mountain bike racer. In the off season, Jeremy currently works at the Joint Antarctic Search and Rescue Mecmurdo Station in Antarctica . Jeremy guides mountaineering courses and climbs. He has taken the American Mountain Guides Association Top Rop Site Manager Course.

Carlos Cummings

Carlos is a graduate from Oregon State University’s Outdoor Recreation and Leadership Program and has completed the Wilderness First Responder Certification as well as the Level 1 Avalanche Certification. He began his career with Timberline Mountain Guides as an intern in 2005 and is now the Office Manager. Carlos has immersed himself in the back county for years. He has backpacked and climbed in the Adirondacks, the Oregon and Washington Cascades, as well as an international mountaineering trip to Mexico. He is planning to travel back to Mexico to complete his goal of summiting both El Pico de Orizaba and Volcano Ixtaccihuatl soon. He has climbed Mt. Hood several times by different routes as well as many of the Pacific Northwest volcanoes. He is an avid snowboarder and ventures into the backcountry for turns as often as he can. Carlos enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and dog, Willie. He also enjoys mountain biking and surfing during his spare time.
